Paul Attewell is Distinguished Professor of Sociology at the Graduate Center, CUNY, where he works in two doctoral programs: sociology and urban education. His recent research has been in the sociology of education with a focus on the relationship between educational institutions and social inequality. He has studied middle and high schools and colleges. He is the co-author of Passing the Torch: Does Higher Education Pay Off Across the Generations? which won the American Education Research Association’s Outstanding Book Award, and also the Grawemeyer Award in Education.
He is the author, most recently, of Data Mining for the Social Sciences: An Introduction. Co-authored with David Monaghan, the book was published by the University of California Press.
